JANETH JACKSON
Me, Too
It, too, has happened to me.
I am the darker sister.
They tell me I’m lying
When I say it happened to me,
But I ignore them
And keep fighting,
And grow stronger.
Tomorrow,
I’ll be heard
When I say what happened to me.
No one will dare
Say to me,
“You’re lying,”
Then.
Besides,
They’ll see
And be ashamed—
It, too, has happened to me.
JANETH JACKSON is a native of Moss Point, MS, who reecently earned her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Mississippi.
